Tyczka Hydrogen GmbH has taken another step towards sustainable mobility: on 17 June 2024, we opened our first own hydrogen filling station at the Augsburg Freight Centre
On Monday, 17 June 2024, the filling station was officially inaugurated and officially opened in the presence of Minister of State Hubert Aiwanger. After just nine months of construction, it was a proud moment for us to celebrate this important step towards sustainable mobility.
The inauguration took place in a festive atmosphere, together with numerous partners, customers and representatives from the world of politics. We were particularly pleased by the presence of Minister of State Hubert Aiwanger, who emphasised the importance of hydrogen for the decarbonisation of mobility in his speech. The official opening was crowned by the first refuelling of a MAN hydrogen tractor unit by the Minister.
As part of our Hydrogen Mobility Day, guests had the opportunity to experience innovative hydrogen commercial vehicles from various manufacturers up close. There were also exciting presentations and lively discussions with experts and users. This day was not only an opportunity for us to present the new refuelling station, but also to raise the profile of hydrogen mobility in the region.
As part of the development of the hydrogen production plant of Hy2B Wasserstoff GmbH in Pfeffenhausen, the shareholders Tyczka Hydrogen and BayWa began discussions at the end of 2021 on possible locations for hydrogen refuelling stations in southern Bavaria in order to create an additional sales opportunity for the green hydrogen from Pfeffenhausen. The location of the new BayWa LNG filling station in the GVZ Augsburg on the Kloiber GmbH site quickly emerged: Due to the large number of surrounding logistics companies, the proximity to the A8 motorway and, last but not least, the proximity to a manufacturer of hydrogen-based trucks, there are excellent prospects for rapid capacity utilisation of the filling station. Talks were held with local stakeholders at short notice and a project outline for the petrol station was submitted to the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs in March 2022. Just a few months later, all signs were green for the realisation of Tyczka Hydrogen's first public hydrogen filling station.
Tyczka Hydrogen has expanded the existing BayWa LNG refuelling station to include a hydrogen refuelling station, which it now operates. Customers can refuel with green hydrogen here - including from the new production site of Hy2B Wasserstoff GmbH in Pfeffenhausen, in which Tyczka Hydrogen has a stake. The refuelling station is supplied with its own hydrogen trailers.
The filling station supplies hydrogen at 350 and 700 bar and can refuel all standard vehicles from cars, buses and special vehicles to heavy goods vehicles. In the first phase, it can fill around 10 to 20 commercial vehicle tanks per day with a total of around 500 kg. If the refuelling station no longer meets demand, capacity can be expanded through additional investment.
In Bavaria, 16 hydrogen refuelling stations are currently in operation and 20 more are planned or under construction (source: www.h2.live & www.bayern-innovativ.de/de/seite/foerderprogramm-zum-aufbau-einer-wasserstofftankstelleninfrastruktur-in-bayern).
In the Augsburg region, the new refuelling station is the second hydrogen refuelling station and the first for heavy commercial vehicles.
The filling station at the Augsburg freight village is being financially supported by the State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy as part of the H2T programme. State Minister Hubert Aiwanger presented Tyczka Hydrogen GmbH with the funding decision for the construction of the hydrogen refuelling station in Munich in November 2022.
The ground-breaking ceremony for the official start of construction of the hydrogen filling station in the GVZ took place on 22 September 2023.
Many invited guests, project partners and suppliers attended the ceremony at the GVZ site. After being welcomed by Dr Frank Götzelmann (CEO Tyczka GmbH) and Thomas Zorn (Managing Director Tyczka Hydrogen GmbH), the ground-breaking ceremony for the hydrogen filling station took place together with the cooperation partners Kloiber GmbH and BayWa AG, the mayor of Neusäß, the economic officer of the city of Augsburg and many others.
Afterwards, there was time to exchange ideas and network with the partners and the neighbourhood of the GVZ over a snack and drinks.
